THE CHALLENGE
Mr Laleham initially enquired if we could assist with a blockage at his 4-bedroomed house in Essex. We attended 3 Corsham Road to undertake the clearance on the ground floor. We were able to manually clear the toilets, however, we were unable to trace it to the inspection chamber that the customer thought was causing the issue.
The course of action
Upon further investigation, we found that shingle was entering the drainage system within two drainage runs and that this was causing the blockage.
We returned to the site with our combination tanker unit. After extracting the shingle we used the tanker to clean the pipework before re-surveying the system.
The survey revealed that the bottom of the pipe connecting the toilet to the rest bend had dropped and disconnected. This was allowing shingle into the pipework and letting waste travel upstream. The combination of these two things was blocking up the system.
After excavating to 1.5m and replacing both pipes with the correct alignment and fall, the system discharged into the manhole as it was supposed to. We then tunnelled into the building to expose the disconnected pipework and make a new connection.
The outcome
Express Drainage Solutions left the site with all systems working. The customer was happy with how helpful and knowledgeable the team were from start to finish and ended up recommending us to a family member who needed a new drain installed on their property.
