The Client 

Ms Pembleton called us in April 2022 to request assistance with installing drainage during her new house build in Wraysbury, Berkshire. Ms Pembleton was building a semidetached bungalow with no existing sewer connection and needed her connection to be built onto the existing public sewers in the neighbourhood. 

The Solution 

After an initial visit to Ms Pembleton’s house, we recommended and undertook the following works:  

1. We started work by digging a shaft excavation at the side of the nearest foul water manhole. This was located 2m from the surface. 
2.  We then installed a new 150mm lateral connection into the manhole and concreted this in place.  
3. We undertook an open-cut excavation from the lateral connection across the carriageway next to the building site and the location of the property. 
4. Within the excavation, we installed 150mm of clay pipework.  
5. We surrounded the new pipework in 10mm shingle.  
6. We backfilled the excavations with type 1 granular material.  
7. Finally, we tarmacked the surface to a presentable state. 

As part of these works, we coordinated the following licenses, all of which were essential to us completing a fully compliant drainage project. 

• A Thames Water Section 106 – Required licenses allowing for a new connection. 
• Traffic Management Equipment and permissions – Priority Working is required to make the connection to the public sewer.
• A Section 50 application – This is needed for us to dig up the road and install apparatus within a public domain. 
• A Road Bond – Required as surety to excavate with within the public carriageway/footpath. 

The outcome

Ms Pembleton’s building team completed construction successfully, this included connecting the house’s plumbing systems to the drainage we had installed. She was and remains satisfied with the quality of work and found our levels of communication throughout the process clear and helpful.
